"My fashion design experience has laid the foundation for my creative work. My curiosity and creative wandering has driven me to explore storytelling through photography, and film. This has led me to work in wardrobe and project coordination roles for a variety of music videos and film productions. I have a strong creative vision, voice, and administrative experience that enable me to understand and contribute to the development of successful and impactful visual works."

_______ ETHOS
"Our existence in itself is a conversation with the Divine. With the understanding that we are constantly engaging with something bigger, may we act with love & accountability for all of creation." - Sheila Nortley | Screen Writer & Film Maker |
Danayi Madondo is a Zimbabwean fashion designer, textile artist, and storyteller based in Harare. Her work engages with multi-disciplinary practices that take on an immersive storytelling approach, seeking to archive and preserve cultural design practices while expanding cultural discourse. Her experimental designs are imbued with a sense of mysticism and tradition.
Danayi's textile works are developed through an intuitive and contemplative process that focuses on the sensory experience. She mixes multiple global and local traditional handcrafts to create texturally rich textiles through a regenerative design process that reduces textile waste. Danayi's fashion works have been exhibited at the Circular Fashion Summit, where she was one of 10 honoree BIPOC designers, in collaboration with Lablaco. She has also presented fashion workshops for Fashion Open Studio, and her collaborative Fashion Revolution documentary, The Therapy of Fashion, was selected for the Bokeh Fashion Film Festival. In 2022, Danayi was selected as one of nine global co-creators for the State of Fashion's: Ways of Caring 2022 Biennial. At the Biennial, she exhibited a solo and collaborative body of work titled "Does it have an end?", an immersive organic sensory textile sculpture. Danayi Madondo's directorial debut, Exodus: A Journey to New Worlds, has won several awards and been showcased at multiple festivals. The film won the award for Best Sound Editing at the 2022 European Film Festival of Zimbabwe, and was also shown at the FashionClash Festival in the Netherlands in 2022 and the Fashion Film Festival Milano in Milan in June 2023. Madondo was selected as one of seven Global South East Africans to exhibit during London Fashion Week under the British Councils x Fashion Scout Creative: DNA Residency program in London, England. |
